With hurricane season upon us AND the pending arrival of Hurricane Florence, all of us at Team 212 and RE/MAX Closers decided to brainstorm and send a list of things you may not consider doing over the next 48 hours. We all think about bread, milk, water and other necessities. Here is a broader list of things to consider:
- If you have one, check your sump pump to make sure it's working properly
- If you have a back up battery for your sump pump, make sure it's fully charged
- Cycle your generator to make sure it will turn on
- If you are in a potential evacuation area, get your overnight bag ready.
- If you have medicines that need to be refrigerated, get a special cooler for that
- Make sure your pets are safe. Do you need to stock up on anything for them? (blankets, toys, security vests, etc)
- Buy extra gas for the generator
- Pick up loose items in your yard that might blow around
- Buy some food items that won't spoil
- Buy even more water!
- Get an extra gas bottle for your grill.
- Gas up your cars and park them away from trees.
- Charge those power bricks for your electronics.
- Keep cell phones on charge as much as possible to maintain max charge.
- Fill up your bath tubs so you have water for flushing toilets.
- Bring a cooler into the kitchen so you can keep a few essentials handy to minimize opening the fridge/freezer
- Get batteries for flashlights and know where your candles/camping lights are stored
- Consider minimizing use of basement toilets and showers, especially if power goes out.
- Drag out the board games and have some great family time!
- If your home is not occupied, empty the ice-maker, turn it off and close the main water valve.
- Consider taking your real estate sign down so the panels don't fly off.
Above all. Keep Safe!
